feels like spring . . .

when the quince tree has sprouted fresh new shoots. when the daffodils are bobbing their heads in the breeze. when i'm thinking salad instead of slow cooker and stews. when 'go outside and play' is a reasonable request. when we're packing the picnic basket and eating outdoors. when the cold doesn't bite you upon rising in the morning. when the bees are out and the blowflies too. when i get to unwrap the bundle and enjoy soft pink baby. when the boronia is flowering*. when i'm pulling out my tin of vegetable seeds and wondering what i need to order. when i can wear a t-shirt all day with not a woollen jumper in sight. when i'm slipping on pluggers at the back door instead of my gumboots. when the warmth of the sun on your face feels so good.

spring seems to arrived here bang on time. no doubt we'll still be lighting the fire right through until november, but for now i'm happy to enjoy this glorious sunshine while it lasts.

{*sam returned from the shops last week with a bunch of boronia. he's been raving about the sweet smell ever since. i've been nodding and smiling politely and wondering what all the fuss is about.
turns out there is a specific type of anosmia, an inability to detect smell, and some people are completely unable to smell boronia. this i never knew.}

  2. I love Boronia! Two words I have not heard of before - Anosmia, how interesting! I also had to google 'Pluggers" - do you really call them that or were you worried about the alternate meaning? Enjoy your lovely Spring weather :-) x

    1. I thought 'thongs' might paint too interesting a picture for non Aussie readers. But we do call them pluggers too, or 'double pluggers' if they are fancy ones!

  3. It sure is spring at our place too Rachel...summer really! 32 degrees today, hot north wind, blowflies, dust and snakes sighted. I am not quite ready to let go of the cold weather yet!

    I love your list of spring things, especially the quince shoots and unwrapping the bundle x

  5. Your list is just lovely. The first thing I thought when I saw your boronia was 'oh, that must smell amazing!'... I'd never heard of the inability to smell it before. The sunshine is slowly creeping into our days too (although I still have the heater on tonight and a blanket thrown over me trying to keep warm). Spring always makes me feel so much more energetic and motivated after my winter of hibernation. Wishing you lovely days ahead throughout spring xx

  6. wow, I didn't know about that olfactory quirk before, either! I adore the smell of boronia. Enjoy it Sam! And, you have a quince tree?? PLEASE make sure you get some pics of it flowering and fruiting etc. I would love to have one but not sure if it gets cold enough in the big smoke...
