my chai. . .

i like to start my day
with a pot of chai tea
which i pour from
as i go about
my morning routine

lately, i've been experimenting
with my own blend
~ i thought i'd share
my recipe here
with you today

My Chai Tea Blend

12 cardamom pods
1 cinnamon stick
1 teaspoon of cloves
1 teaspoon of peppercorns
1 teaspoon coriander seeds
half a nutmeg
3 cubes of glace ginger chopped
1/2 a cup loose leaf tea

1. split cardamom pods with a sharp knife
2. toast all spices (not ginger or tea)
in a hot fry pan until fragrant
3. crush all spices
with a mortar and pestle
4. combine spices with tea and ginger
5. store in a glass jar or tea tin

{use these quantities as a rough guide
and experiment to find your own
preferred blend}

~ happy chai drinking ~

{ETA: mind the glace ginger if you have joined me on the sugar free journey}

  3. My coblogger taught me how to make the BEST chai with the BEST soy... However your recipe has some interesting additions, e.g peppercorns and ginger pieces ...might have to give them a go!

    Oh yeah, and how good is homemade chai right?

  9. Beautiful photos Rachel. I just stumbled here too, so glad I did. We have much in common - slow lane, home births, yoga, chai! I love your decadence including glace ginger in your mix. I look forward to reading more.

    I am getting through my bag of Chai from Cathie. Think I will have to have a go at yours when I finish this lot.

  11. Thanks to you, I am now two weeks down the "i quit sugar" path. I must say I'm finding it easier than expected, I'm yet to get to the really hard part I suspect. I'll be trying this recipe for sure, a nice replacement for my morning coffee. Thanks for the inspiration.

  12. That looks like a delicious recipe. I haven't always been a huge fan of chai, but lately I've made sure I have a locally made blend in the house for friends, and I've come to quite like it. Might give your blend a try. The roasting aromas alone would be worth it.

  14. I don't know why I never thought of making my own Chai! I love a good one, not the syrupy ones in the shops, so I will definitely give it a go... Little jars of homemade chai would make a really sweet gift too!
