my creative space

I picked up a big ol' suitcase fom the op-shop last week. Complete with faux alligator skin and tavel worn tags. How I wish that luggage could talk.

We've been filling it with all sots of treasure.

Hats. Bags. A crown. A scarf. Pirate pants. Sparkles. Feathers. Beads.

Dragging it to the back lawn. Studio. Cubby house.

But it was missing a certain something.

So in one of those mad bursts of sewing energy, just minutes before dinner, we whipped up a tutu.

She loves it.

I've been teaching her all my moves.

First. Second. Third. Fourth. Fifth.

Plie. Rond de jambe. Frappe.

A trip down memory lane for me.

Hours of delight for her.

Chasse over here for more creative spaces.

  4. Lovely story. How come all those crazy bursts of inspiration come before dinner time or just before you have to leave for school?

  5. Gee, I wish I could just whip up a tutu, Petal would be in heaven. But at least I can still teach her the five positions, once a fledging ballerina, always a fledgling ballerina.

  6. Gorgeous pic. Thanks for sharing with us. What a fantastic idea. We used to have a dress up box too. Wish I knew where those things were now, they would be worth a fortune now for their vintage appeal! :)

  8. How cute that you knew something was missing... and that you found (made) it!

And bonus points to you for remembering those ballet moves. All those classes, concerts and costumes were worth it!

  18. Rachel, what a great find, with tags and all. I love this idea. We did the same. Ours is a 1950's mint green square hat box lined with aeroplane print paper.
The poppets love it and it's always topped up by family and friends with recycled goodies. We all dress up. Gotta love daddy in a pink feather boa!
Well done on the tutu whip up.
