my creative space

At any given time there are usually multiple creative projects and ideas swimming around in my head, at various stages of development, waiting to be brought to life.

One project: I've sat down in my studio on numerous occasions, all primed and ready to make a tote (aka library book bag). There are no shortage of materials on hand. It's a simple thing to sew. But for some reason I've just never had that spark I need to start cutting and stitching.

Another project: I have a bag filled with beautiful delicate vintage doilies and pieces of hand embroidery. So precious and perfect. I pull them out from time-to-time. Drape them over this and that. Try to find some practical way to use or display them...then pack them back in the bag.

Then one fine Sunday afternoon, these two seemingly independent ideas collide. Neural pathways cross. Spark. Magic. I have found my sewjo*. Within no time this little number is whipped up. The lining is the best bit (see below). An old pillow sham brought back to life.

Worth the wait I think.

*sewjo: I read this term last week. I can't for the life of me find where. I love it, but it's not my own. Stand up. Come forward. I know you're out there. I'll duly give you credit, if you show yourself!

  2. How great when the planets align and things fall into place. The doily looks great on the grey and the pilliowcase is perfect lining. I wonder what is next....

  5. I like it. I like the way the understated background brings out the prettiness of the doily. And I really like that it's a special bag just for library books ;-)

  6. Yes, that looks like a perfect marriage to me. Don't you love it when you just suddenly KNOW the purpose for something in your stash? It's a little bit of fuel for the excuse for having all that fabric piling up!

  17. Very pretty indeed. Sometimes I think I stall on ideas because I am not sure it is the "best" use of my materials- esp if they are vintage. I can see why you wasted no time once this project came to you. I want to make one too! To celebrate the new library opening down the road!

  23. I missed this one last week. It's perfect, no wonder you've kept it.

I too have doilies waiting to be attached to things. I've attached one to a skirt refashion, but just along one edge. How did you attach it as a circle?
