around here . . .

it's a chilly morning. it's been raining all night and all day. the fire is crackling. i'm sitting in the rocking chair. a tiny baby asleep in my lap. he's been here with us for two weeks now, but it feels like forever. a coffee sits on the windowsill beside me. i'm knitting a vest for elliot. it matches the one i've just finished for oscar. i'm a clumsy and slow knitter at best, but i feel like i'm beginning to understand the appeal of working with needles and wool. there's some reheated lentil pie for lunch. there has been a steady stream of delicious and nutritious meals delivered to our door. the generosity and support of this little community of ours has been breathtaking. slowly i've been taking up the reins again. a load of laundry here. some washing up there. remembering how to do things one handed. i see real life gradually starting to creep back in. a new normal with a new person in our world.
